Carolyn K. Lesorogol, AB Harvard 1987
Carolyn K. Lesorogol (AB Harvard 1987; PhD Washington University 2002) is Professor and Associate Dean for Global Strategies and Programs at the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis. She grew up in St. Louis and attended Ladue Horton Watkins High School. After studying abroad during junior year at Harvard (Wigglesworth and Adams House), she decided to return there following graduation. For the next ten years she lived and worked with communities in northern Kenya promoting participatory approaches to community organization and development. She returned to St. Louis to pursue a PhD in cultural anthropology at Washington University and joined the faculty at the Brown School in 2003. She continues to conduct research on land use, property and social relations in Kenya and has also worked in Haiti, Madagascar and Tanzania. Her current project investigates community-based wildlife conservancies in Kenya and their impacts on local communities. Hobbies include horseback riding, running and (non-academic!) reading.
